ST. GEORGE, UT – Contact Climbing Gym hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate their newly constructed facility on February 1st, 2021, at 11 am.
Community members and city officials gathered for a short program followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a tour of the new climbing facility. Contact Climbing is the first full-service climbing gym in St. George and has been anxiously awaited by locals, especially in the climbing community.
“We’re here today as a result of a lot of sacrifices and hard work on the part of many people,” said Jeff Compas, CEO, and Co-Founder. “In some respects, we’re standing on the shoulders of giants, as we have benefited from the experience and advice of local climbers, industry groups, and other climbing gyms throughout the country. We’ve gathered a world-class team of talent to help us bring this dream to reality, which we hope will become a home for the southern Utah climbing community.”
The building has 12,000 square feet of roped climbing walls reaching up to 50 feet high that appeal to climbers of all expertise. Additionally, the building houses 3,000 square feet of bouldering on 14-foot walls, a yoga and group fitness studio, cardio equipment, weight machines, free weights, and retail space to purchase equipment, snacks, and drinks.
Contact Climbing will open its doors on February 4th, 2021. They offer memberships and day passes, which both include unlimited climbing, yoga, and fitness. Patrons are encouraged to sign up online at contactclimbinggym.com.
Construction was completed by a local Construction Manager, Watts Construction.
Doug Watts, Watts Construction Vice President, said, “It’s a great location, a great looking building, [a] great atmosphere, and the moments like this are our greatest reward. This is the best part of it all.”
Contact Climbing offers additional opportunities to the community, such as summer camps, after-school programs, competitive team climbing, and indoor and outdoor clinics.
