After a lifetime of dedication to the industry and community, Doug Watts is officially retired!
Doug has been in the construction industry his whole life. He said, “In Logan, you know I was building treehouses when my dad was starting out. I’d drag his stuff home, so I was always in the business.”
In 1968, Doug’s father, Richard Watts, started Watts Construction in Logan, Utah. After years of construction experience elsewhere, Doug decided to join the family business in 1985, marking the beginning of an incredible journey. In 2010, he took the helm, steering the company to new heights in St. George.
Reflecting on his father’s advice, Watts said, “You know my dad always said, and I really do believe this that if you just go the extra mile and you’re not greedy, and you’re not ruthless and you do things right, that puts you above a lot of the competition.”
Doug was instrumental in the steady growth and great reputation of Watts Construction and was the primary force behind some of the most notable projects in Washington County and Iron County. Doug has made a tremendous impact in his career. He has been a driving force in various community organizations which included serving as a board member and chairman for both the Washington County Economic Development Council and the Associated General Contractors of Utah.
As Doug steps into this well-deserved chapter of retirement, we reflect on the mark he’s made. His legacy is not just in buildings but in the thriving community he’s helped build. Here’s to you, Doug – may your retirement be as extraordinary as your career!
